Taxes for 2020: What to do with Form 1095-A, Health Insurance Marketplace® Statement

If someone in your family had a Marketplace plan in 2020, they should have received Form 1095-A, Health Insurance Marketplace.® An email statement from Marketplace (not the IRS). Once you’ve verified it’s accurate, keep it with your important tax information, such as your W-2 form and other records, so you can easily find it when you’re ready to submit it.

How to find Form 1095-A online

If you don’t receive the email or can’t find it, follow these steps to check your HealthCare.gov account.

  1. Log in to your HealthCare.gov account..

  3. Select Tax Forms from the left menu.
  4. Download all 1095-As displayed on the screen.

What to do with Form 1095-A

  • You cannot file federal taxes without Form 1095-A. You’ll need to “reconcile” to see if there’s a difference between the premium tax credit you’ve used in 2020 and the amount you’re eligible for.
  • before doing anything make sure it’s correct.
  • If you have already submitted with the wrong form, amended return Use information about modified 1095-A.
