‘She deserves a century’ – Aakash Chopra praises Sophie Devine’s fiery knock in RCB’s WPL 2023 win over Gujarat Giants
Aakash Chopra feels Sophie Devine just missed out on a well-deserved century in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) WPL 2023 vs. Gujarat Giants (GG) victory.
The Giants set a massive target of 189 runs for RCB after choosing to bat first at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium on Saturday, March 18. Devine then sucked her 99 runs off just 36 balls to help her side overhaul the target with her 8 wickets and 27 balls. No spares to keep playoff hopes alive.
While reviewing the match on JioCinema’s “Aakash Vani” show, Chopra emphasized that: RCB Pushing their disruptive game to the fore, he explained:
“RCB not only won this match, they made a statement that if they played well, they could play very well. need to watch this match in reverse order.Sophie Devine – 99, she deserves a century.”

Devine struck out nine 4s and eight 6s during the innings. With just 9.2 overs she tied her partnership for the first wicket of her 125 runs with Smriti Mandhana (37 off 31) and ended the game as a contest.

while appreciating Ashley Gardner In a fiery knock for the Giants, Chopra concluded by noting that Devine mocked the challenging target by stating:
“Ashley Gardner was also there at the end. All the bowlers hit a lot except Shreyanka Patil. There were runs on the board and the Gujarat Giants came of course Sophie Devine to shine. We had a chance to win.”
Gardner smashed 41 runs off 26 balls, with six 4s and 6s interspersed in the knock. Dayalan Hemalatha (16* off 6) and Harleen Deol (12* off 5) also landed some combative blows to lead the Giants to a seemingly winning score.
