Saudi Arabian GP: Sergio Perez wins in Jeddah, Max Verstappen ‘not happy’ after second

A frustrated Max Verstappen said he was “not happy” to finish second after being given permission to race each other with Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez at the Saudi Grand Prix.

Perez won in Jeddah from pole position, while Verstappen surged up the field after starting 15th due to a driveshaft failure in qualifying.

Reigning world champion Verstappen, whose victory was aided by the introduction of the safety car, said: “It was good to come back to second place and overall I’m happy with the feeling of the whole team.

“But I’m not happy personally. I’m not here to be second, especially to come back to the factory and come here in good shape and make sure everything is going well. Especially when you’re working very hard.”

“When you’re fighting for a championship and it looks like it’s between two cars [Verstappen and Perez] You have to make the two cars trustworthy. We absolutely have to do better – a clean weekend would be nice.

“We are allowed to race so that the best man finishes in front.”

Rosberg: Verstappen mentality ‘not good’
