Retiree Health Insurance Options

If you recently retired and are not yet eligible for Medicare, you may be able to get health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace.®.

Just because you quit your job doesn’t make you eligible to qualify.

, do not lose health insurance. If you lose your health insurance when you retire, you can purchase health insurance other than Open Enrollment for 60 days.

  • If you decide not to use COBRA, you can subscribe to the Marketplace plan instead.
  • If you have already started COBRA coverage, you have various options.

If you have retiree health insurance but want to purchase a Marketplace plan instead, you can.but you won’t get

and other savings on the Marketplace. If you voluntarily cancel your retiree health insurance, you are not eligible for the special coverage period.
