Preparing for a Doctor’s Visit: 3 Tips

published to July 13, 2017

Now that you have Marketplace health insurance, there are three things to keep in mind before seeing a doctor:

collect what you need

  • You may be asked to provide proof of insurance, photo ID, a completed form sent prior to booking, and co-payments (if any).
  • After check-in, you may need to fill out other forms and read the privacy policy.

know your medical history

  • So, your doctor should better understand your health and lifestyle, and consider sharing your family’s health history and medical records, as well as any medications you’re taking.
  • You may want to bring someone along, such as a friend or family member.

Preparing questions

  • Write down any questions or concerns before booking so you don’t forget to ask them.
  • If you don’t understand what your doctor is saying, don’t hesitate to ask for clarification. They are there to help!
  • See if your doctor has a document you can take home to read and if he has a phone number you can call later if you have any questions.
