MI vs UPW, WPL 2023: 3 Player Battles to Watch

Aspiring Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on UP Warriorz (UPW) in the first afternoon match of Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Saturday.

Mumbai have won all five of their games so far and have a healthy net run rate, so one might argue that a win over UPW would almost certainly secure the top spot and place in the finals. I can’t.

UPW, on the other hand, have lost two games on the bounce and need to hold on to one more game to give the likes of the Gujarat Giants and Royal Challenger Bangalore a sniff to finish in third place.

MI comfortably won the reverse fixture by eight wickets and had certain matchups that could play a role again in the next match. So let’s take a look at his three matches in match 17 at WPL 2023.

#3 Yastika Bhatia vs Sophie Ecclestone

Yastika Bhatia continues to give the Mumbai Indians a great start by scoring 42 runs in just 27 balls against UP Warriorz🔥She is now proving her high price tag✨ https://t.co/IxR21EPLPV

Yastika Bhatia Her strike rate in India’s T20Is put under the scanner. But the southpaw has so far proven at WPL 2023 that he can deliver consistently when given a clear role within a team.

In five matches, Bhatia scored 151 runs, giving MI a solid start on almost every occasion. However, she was sacked three times for a left arm spin.

UPW have arguably the best spinner in women’s cricket in Sophie Ecclestone and they probably know Bartia has sacked a left arm spin.Hayley Matthews has not been sacked in the last two matches. As such, UPW recognizes that early dismissal of Bhatia would be a major blow to MI.

#2 Talia McGrath vs. Amelia Kerr

Talia McGrath has already played some great knocks at WPL 2023, proving that she is the #1 T20I batsman in women’s cricket. I have great memories of her match 10 at WPL 2023 in Brabourne (CCI) against MI.

She was dismissed at the wrong time, resulting in a UPW 15-20 run, but McGrath dominated the MI bowlers at the crease. Mumbai will face Starbatter in the form of leg spinner Amelia Kerr.

Kerr conceded 33 runs on 33 balls bowled to McGrath and sent off three times. Kiwi spinners can be a little pricey, but against opponents like McGrath, her wicket-taking ability becomes very important.

#1 Alyssa Healy vs. Haley Matthews

Without the bat, definitely in the bowl Haley Matthews 🔥 really is the MVP …..#Wpl https://t.co/x8WlJLccgV

Aside from being an explosive hitter, Haley Matthews He was a sensational bowler for MI this season. She is her second highest wicket taker in the WPL so far with a staggering 10 wickets of hers in 5 games.

UPW Skipper Alyssa Healy We’ve had mixed tournaments so far, with some great knocks and some missteps. dismissed her twice.

It’s an interesting matchup as the West Indies captain is likely to throw the ball on a power play again.
