The patent in question was developed by Voxer co-founder Tom Katis. Tom Katis is a veteran who was trying to fix the shortcomings experienced in battlefield communications after a combat unit was ambushed in Kunar province in 2003. Katis and his team began developing communications solutions in 2006. , brought a new technology that allows the transmission of live audio and video communications. Then in 2007 he founded Voxer and in 2011 the walkie talkie app was released.
