Iran late to beat Wales in World Cup second leg

Late goals by Roozbeh Cheshmi and Ramin Rezaeian gave Iran a decisive victory.

Two goals in quick succession deep in stoppage time gave Iran their first World Cup victory, beating a spirited Welsh side who finished the match with 10 players.

A powerful long-range shot by Roozbeh Cheshmi had the Iranian fans screaming inside the Ahmad bin Ali stadium before Ramin Rezaeian made it 2-0 calmly.

Wales dominated possession throughout Friday’s match, and the first half was closely contested as both fans enthusiastically urged their teams.

Iran dominated the second half, hitting the post twice in quick succession. Hennessy were given the marching orders after knocking Taremi outside the box in the 86th minute.

More to come.
