INEC postpones gubernatorial, parliamentary elections with 10 Lagos voting units


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed governor and state legislative elections in 10 voting units in Victoria Garden City (VGC) around Lekki District in Lagos State.

Affected polling units include PU 032,033, 119-124.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner Segun Agbaje made the announcement during a meeting with journalists.

He said members of the corps deployed as ad hoc staff on Saturday were hesitant to enter the VGC premises because they claimed they were held hostage during the Feb. 25 presidential and parliamentary elections.

He said the commission’s ad-hoc staff set up voting materials in front of the property on Saturday, but residents of the property didn’t feel safe and were unable to vote because they claimed complaining could interfere with the process. .

He said he and his team had to come to the area because security forces had difficulty containing the situation.

“After due consultation and further instructions from the National Headquarters, we need to remobilize here to conduct the election tomorrow (Sunday) at 8:30 am. Tomorrow (Sunday) at 8:30 am. We will meet again here,” Agbaje said.

Tunde Doherty, a gubernatorial candidate for the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) whose voting arm belongs to the VGC, said the situation was unfortunate.
