Inauguration of 48 new delegates to the High Council of Togo Abroad | Ichirome

The 48 new country representatives of the High Council of Togo Overseas (HCTE), elected last month, were formally inaugurated on Wednesday 23 November 2022 in Lomé in a ceremony led by Togo’s Foreign Minister Robert Dussey.

Elected for a three-year term, these representatives should mobilize the Togolese diaspora for national development by promoting investment in national projects.

Togo’s foreign affairs chief took the opportunity to once again thank the delegation for their efforts during their final term.

“Most delegates stood out not only for their capacity and ability to unite Togolese abroad on projects of common interest, but also for their voluntary and active solidarity with their compatriots in distress situations. HCTE representatives have particularly distinguished themselves as true promoters of our country’s cultural identity and brand image by initiating or supporting several events.

“From a holistic perspective, the role of the HCTE has been crucial in organizing a wave of repatriation of compatriots stranded in their countries of residence following the closure of borders during the health crisis, and providing support to compatriots. But there were difficulties in Ukraine when the Russian-Ukrainian conflict began, ”he added.

According to Aliou Dia, Permanent Representative of the United Nations Program in Togo (UNDP), the initiative is beneficial because it enables “Togolese abroad to actively participate in the multisectoral transformation of the country”.
