How to get health insurance for 2018 outside of Open Enrollment

If you didn’t enroll in Marketplace health insurance during the 2018 open enrollment period, there are two ways to get coverage:

If you fall under the special admission period

Through Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

  • Medicaid and CHIP provide free or low-cost health insurance to millions of Americans, including some low-income individuals, families and children, pregnant women, seniors, and people with disabilities.
  • If you qualify, you can start coverage immediately any time of the year.
  • Learn how to apply for Medicaid and CHIP.
