How Pivot helped HopSkipDrive succeed in a sector where many have failed

Joanna McFarland Got She came up with the idea for HopSkipDrive in 2014 because she needed a solution to a problem facing many working parents like her.

The idea came to her at a birthday party she attended with one of her children. The topic of moving children came up, and every mother out there had her own story about the situation in which she felt she had to let her children down because there was no way to take them to whatever destination. I talked.

McFarland launched hop skip drive Together with Carolyn Yashari Becher and Janelle McGlothlin (three with eight children) as a safe way to tackle this problem by hiring a safe third-party driver to bring the children.

HopSkipDrive didn’t know at the time that it would soon have quite a few startups raising venture capital to tackle the problem. Based in Newton, Massachusetts, his Sheprd tried to solve this problem by carting the kids in a tricked-out Land Rover complete with snacks and an iPad. Los Angeles-based Shuddle has made it look like his Uber for kids by offering an on-demand ride-hailing service.

Many of those start-ups have since gone out of business. Not in HopSkipDrive. why? The early pivot from focusing on parents as sole customers opened up new revenue streams and set the stage for the company to move forward over many failed companies.
