The creators of fandom Interactive wiki map When Fandom trivia More than a year through the community blog as the feature has been tested and completed. Today is the first time the platform has announced its features to the public.

Interactive Wiki Maps introduces a customizable mapping tool that has long been requested by the author community. Fandom Trivia, on the other hand, is a built-in wiki feature that allows authors to improve the fan experience and test their knowledge of imaginary world details that they don’t fully understand. Today, creators of all Fandom communities can design their own maps and quizzes to further immerse their fans in the imaginary world and provide information about their favorite games, TV shows and movies.

This feature was finally released last month after testing, bug fixes, and feedback from creators. The team continues to evolve map tools and implement new features such as custom map markers.

The Interactive Wiki Maps feature is created using the open source Leaflet JavaScript library and defined using JSON (JavaScript Object Notation). It can be built as a wiki page in the Map namespace and embedded in other pages using template transclusion. Transclusion is the use of MediaWiki’s template functionality to incorporate the same content into many documents without having to edit the documents individually. The JSON file is the source editor and the underlying code. The team also built a much more intuitive editor on top of it.

Next, to make interactive map creation available to everyone, Fandom created a visual editor tool that simplifies the build experience. This tool is similar to the current theme designer, allowing users to comfortably upload map images, place custom markers on maps, and add descriptions without having to interact with the JSON source code. Users familiar with JSON can edit the code in the Source Editor.

This is not the first time Fandom has attempted to implement a map. There was an old Wikia map feature that was attempted in 2014. However, Fandom’s arsenal had few resources to achieve the right tools and sufficient user recruitment.

Gamepedia, an independent wiki platform acquired by Fandom in 2018, had an IP-specific solution for interactive maps, but it wasn’t centralized into a single tool. The development team was smaller than Fandom’s current team. This new, integrated and customizable mapping tool fulfills its promise to creators who have taken years to complete.

Fandom Trivia has also passed a series of tests, especially quiz locations on the site.

For example, Fandom discovered that many fans did not take advantage of this feature when it was located at the top, sides, or bottom of the page. When Data and research, The team found that engagement increased when features were placed in the content itself. More than 12 million people (4% of users) were involved in Fandom Trivia when the quiz appeared to belong as part of the content rather than next to the page on which the ad was placed.

Unlike the limited trivia quiz feature developed in 2019, this newly evolved experience uses internal tools accessible to staff, wiki personnel, and wiki specialists. Staff and Wiki teams can efficiently create quizzes by using a pre-made catalog of questions or by simply creating them from scratch.

In addition, after much research, Fandom determined that game users were most interested in quizzes (73%). On the other hand, 44.4% of anime fans wanted to take a quiz. In addition, Fandom found that both users were eager to create quizzes and quizzes created by Fandom. In fact, 64% of respondents said it made the most sense to combine the two.

TechCrunch talked to Vice President of Community Brandon Rhea. He said that fandom had an early conversation about opening a quiz made by the fans themselves. Difficulty, community leaderboards, challenges, and even gamification factors are being considered.

Fandom Chief Marketing Officer Stephanie Fried also said that the platform’s main goal is to provide everything fans may need and continue to return to the platform in search of more. I emphasized. With these two features and other future enhancements, Fandom aims to be a one-stop shop for fans. Brandon adds that he wants users to say that fandom is not only a place to seek answers, but also a place to fully experience fans.

“Fandam is thrilled that passionate creators manage 250,000 wikis. Their contribution to the platform is the primary source of information for games, television, movies and pop culture. It’s a major site, “says Rhea. “These new features welcome new users to the community by providing a more immersive opportunity to explore fans on the wiki and a more seamless and immersive site experience.”
