Shanna Burgess is officially a US citizen.
“Something really great happened today :),” the “Dancing With the Stars” pro, 37, captioned. Instagram video On Thursday, we took the Pledge of Allegiance in front of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security emblem.
Burgess raised her right arm while chanting the oath, while holding a certificate and a small American flag in her left hand.
“I never thought this would be so emotional for me,” she wrote. Everything was here, and yet this final step of becoming a citizen and ultimately having the same rights as all Americans felt very important.”
Born and raised in Australia, Burgess explained that he’s been “living outside” his home country since he was 18.
“I’ve never even had to vote anywhere before,” she added. “I think I’ve always felt like a gypsy seeking belonging. Afraid to stay in one place and crave its security. But then America slowly became my permanent home.” .”
“In the end, I found a tribe here, bought a home here, fell in love here, had a son here,” she concluded the post. Burgess added on her Instagram story that she “didn’t expect” to be emotional during the swearing-in, but she did, and Green, 49, was there to film the whole thing.
