Don’t forget your first month’s premium

published to December 18, 2015

If you enrolled or changed to a Marketplace Health Plan before December 17, 2015, your coverage will begin on January 1, 2016.

important: Once you’ve chosen your new plan for 2016, you’ll need to complete one very important task to complete your registration — The first month’s premium must be paid to your insurance company, not HealthCare.gov.

If you choose a new plan or are enrolling for the first time and have already paid your first month’s premium, you are enrolled. If you haven’t paid yet, don’t delay.

Final step: Pay your premium and complete your registration

The first month’s premium must be paid by the due date of the health insurance. Otherwise, you may lose your insurance. Please pay attention to the due date, as it differs for each insurance company.

You may be able to pay online. When you enroll in a plan at HealthCare.gov, you’ll see an enrollment list. If you see a green button that says “PAY FOR HEALTH PLAN”, your insurance company accepts online payments. Click to go to the payment portal.

If the button is grayed out, the insurance company does not accept online payments. The insurance company will contact you within a few days after registration with details on next steps and payment methods.
