Cleveland- picked up browns a Huge win for AFC North in the early season on thursday night. however, 29-17 win Pittsburgh Steelersthey also addressed some big injury questions on defense.

none of them were bigger linebacker limb injury Anthony Walker Jr. It was maintained at the beginning of the third quarter. Walker lay face down on the turf for several minutes before being finally carted off the field.

Linebacker in the same series in which the injury occurred Jeremiah Owusu Coramoor Left with a groin injury and a defensive tackle Taven Bryan I did the same with my hamstring injury. Neither returned to the game.

Coach Kevin Stefanski said in Friday’s Zoom call with media that the team is still awaiting the results of MRIs performed on each of these injuries. sources confirmed to Beacon Journal that Walker tore his quadriceps and will require season-ending surgery.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report. The team officially announced the diagnosis late Friday afternoon, placing Walker on the injured reserve.

Sources also confirmed that an injury to Owusu Coramore or Bryan is seen as a long-term concern, as first reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. That also applies to the safety of Ronnie Harrison Jr., who didn’t play after suffering a hamstring injury in 2016, and Jedrick Wills Jr., who left the tackle coming back after a leg injury scare in the fourth quarter leg.

The loss of Walker would be the longest blow to the Browns’ defense. Considering the MRI results, a future trip to the reserve with 5-7 months of recovery is planned.

“Obviously, when you look at the attention on the field, it obviously didn’t look good,” Stefanski said Friday. He’s a huge, huge, huge part of our football team and what he brings to us on and off the field, so we’re like, ‘What can the MRI tell us?’ I’ll take a look, but after that we’ll just see how it goes. ”

There is no doubt about Walker’s leadership role with the Browns. He was one of his two defensive players who was elected his captain for his five full seasons by his teammates. He is also designated with a green dot on his helmet, meaning he received a radio transmission from defensive coordinator Joe Woods.

Stefanski said the green dot would go to Jacob Phillips, the player who replaced Walker in the lineup. lead the Browns with a big third-down pass breakup.

“He communicates well,” Stefanski said. “He made two great plays in the blitz and sack and PBU in the closing stages of the game. So we made him an early starter alongside Anthony because we think they can both start.”

Steelers OT Chukwuma Okorafor’s “Leave it to the League”

What irked some of Walker’s injured play was what Steelers right tackle Chukuma Okolafor did after the Browns linebacker went down. Walker first came to a halt after seemingly caught his foot in the grass and was knocked backwards by Okolafor.

However, while Walker was apparently lying face down on the ground, Okorafor returned and jumped on top of him. was given.

“Let’s leave those things to the league,” Stefanski said.

Myles Garrett gets special attention from Edge

Edgerushers like Myles Garrett can’t help but expect extra attention from their opponents. It will be even more so if Jadevion Clowney is sidelined due to his ankle injury during Thursday’s win.

Garrett had two assist tackles and one quarterback hit in the win over the Steelers. On many occasions, he would fight not only left tackle Dan Moore, Jr., but other tackles.

“That’s to be expected. The team will see where he lines up. They’ll move the tight end to his side, send the line in his direction and send it back his way. It’s just the nature of the way that tries to protect us.It gives the man a chance. There are things we did last night and things we will continue to do as a way to set him free. It’s no secret.”

It’s also no secret that Garrett is still half a sack behind Clay Matthews’ “official” sack record of 62. This sack wasn’t considered an official NFL statistic until 1982.

The last time Garrett got a sack was when he beat Joe Flacco with just over eight minutes left in the second quarter against the Jets on Sunday. He also sacked Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield twice in the opener.

“I think you can control what you can control,” Stefanski said. I remember playing Von Miller a few years ago. You’re going to make sure someone is tipping him every play. That’s exactly what teams do. ”
