Plot details for “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley” were mostly kept under wraps, but it’s rumored that Axl (Murphy) returned to Beverly Hills to investigate the death of an old friend and uncover corruption within the police force. In Los Angeles, he reunites with his daughter (Taylor Page) and teams up with her high-profile cop ex-boyfriend (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) to solve the case.
Mark Malloy will direct the film, using a script written by ‘Aquaman’ screenwriter Will Beale, who previously wrote the ‘Training Day’ television series. Beall is also writing his ’80s revival movie The Legend of Conan starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Jerry Bruckheimer produces “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley” with Murphy in the lead role. Charisse Hewitt-Webster and Ray Angelic serve as executive producers for him, and Chad Oman and Melissa Reid serve as co-producers for her Jerry Bruckheimer Films.
A supporting star of the original, Reinhold previously played Axel’s antagonist, Detective William “Billy” Rosewood, within LAPD. ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley’ is Reinhold’s first film in five years since 2017’s ‘Bad Grandma’s’ and Lifetime his TV movie ‘Four Christmas and Weddings’.
Ashton will play the now-retired Sergeant John Taggart, whose Emmy Award-winner Reiser is Axel’s friend and partner in the Detroit Police Department. Pinchot reprises the role of art dealer Serge. ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ spurred his two sequels, released in 1987 and his 1994 respectively. The fourth installment comes out 38 years after him from the original, just like the sequel to the history-making blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick did 36 years after him. “Beverly Hills Cop” was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1984.
