Ben Stokes welcomes the return of Jofra Archer and hopes to see him fully recovered for next summer’s Ashes series.
A string of injuries has kept Archer out of a cricket match since last March, but he played for the England Lions this week against England in Abu Dhabi.
“It was great to see him here when we joined the Lions,” said England Test captain Stokes. Sky sports news.
“It’s great to see him running with the ball. He’s one of the superstars of the international game and it’s great to see him running back.”
It’s too early for Archer to return to the English side at this point, but his return is being targeted for next year.
“I think he’s really excited to be back. He’s obviously been out with an injury for a long time. That’s exciting, but we don’t want to see Jofra Archer, so we’re going to rush him.” Care must be taken not to return this amount of side business [time] See you soon,” Stokes explained.
“That’s the plan. Hopefully we can fit and prepare Joffra specifically for The Ashes. That’s what we’re looking for for Joff and we can choose him for that. It is wonderful to do so.”
Joining the England test squad in December in Pakistan is Rehan Ahmed. At just 18, he will become the youngest man ever to play England’s Test if he makes his debut next month.
“We’ve seen him as one of the very rare talents, someone at such a young age to get so much attention as a cricketer with the way he bowls and bats. Take it, put him on the team, take him around the group, bring him into the environment,” Stokes said.
“He’s a great talent, loves cricket and keeps shadow batting in his room,” he added. “He absolutely loves it. I’m really excited to have him on the team and join the group and see what he has to offer.”
However, Stokes warns that Ahmed should not be overly scrutinized at this stage. he is still developing.
“I’m also fully aware that he’s not a finished project yet, and I think it’s important that his participation isn’t given much consideration,” Stokes said.
“We see this as an opportunity to bring a talented player like Rehan into the team, develop it and who knows where he will be in the next few years.
“If you want to throw him a test cap, I’m in a position to do that too.”
