Consumers use HealthCare.gov and state-based marketplaces across the country to apply and enroll for quality, affordable health insurance every day. Over 3 million people have signed up so far, and we hope to add millions more before open registration closes on March 31st.

What this means:
If you have already applied and know you are eligible: This doesn’t affect you. You can continue shopping and select a plan to complete your registration.
If you want coverage valid from March 1, 2014: Usually you have to sign up by February 15th. However, due to the maintenance window, if you apply after 3pm that day, you will not be eligible. If he is unable to complete his registration online by February 15th, after February 18th, he should call 1-800-318-2596 to request coverage after March 1st. .
If you want compensation with a later effective date: You can complete your application during this period, but you will not be able to verify your eligibility during the maintenance period. After you complete your application, you must save your application and return to HealthCare.gov after February 18th to verify your eligibility, choose a plan, and complete your enrollment.
Remember, you have until March 31st to sign up for new coverage during this year’s open enrollment period.
