Amsterdam’s largest bicycle parking lot opens under Central Station

Vivianne Heijnen Secretary of State (Infrastructure) officially opens Amsterdam’s largest bicycle garage Under Amsterdam Central Station on Thursday. On Saturday, the city celebrates the renewed Stationsplein and his IJboulevard after four years of renovation and construction.

The Stationsplein bicycle garage was the first in the world to be built underwater. It has space for 7,000 bicycles and is connected underground to the metro and central station hall. Bicycle parking is his 24/7 and parking is free for the first 24 hours.

Over the past four years, the city has renovated scaffolding and bridges, widened sidewalks and bike paths, replaced tram tracks and stops, and installed many underground cables and pipes in Station Square. That work is finally complete, and the city will invite locals to celebrate the renewed plaza and the end of construction on Saturday.

Saturday noon to 4pm: guided tour of the bike garage, historic tram ride, boat tour around Stationseiland, singing by Amsterdam Smartrappenkohl, puppet show by Jan Klaessen and Katrine . Anyone can join the party for free.
