Texas officials say a 12-year-old girl shot her father and turned the gun on herself after promising to kill her friends and family and run away with them.
Parker County Sheriff’s Office said the girl and her friend had been plotting for weeks to kill their family members and even their pets.
However, according to authorities, her friend never put the plan into action.
Police responded to a home in Weatherford, about 30 miles west of Fort Worth, around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of shootings.
When they arrived, they found the girl lying in the street next to the handgun, with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The girl’s father, 38, was inside with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Both were taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Their current status is unknown.
Investigators found that a 12-year-old girl had planned to drive to Lufka, Texas, about 230 miles away, to pick up her girlfriend after she murdered her father.
A girl from Lufka has been charged with conspiracy in a murder plot, police said.
Their motives remain unknown. Police said they had limited information about the case because the suspect is a minor.
Authorities said the juvenile suspect was not identified because of his age, and that the identities of the adult victims were being withheld to protect the children.
